Our clients want to access information anytime and anywhere.  There are sundry ways to connect remotely to a network.  The method chosen depends on the kind of information that the remote user would like to access and the systems that are in place to support the access.  We design, install and support the following concepts.

For remotely controlling an office PC the traditional way, Windows XP Remote Desktop Connection, PCAnywhere, or VNC Viewer are typically recommended. A typical setup would give you access to your applications and data at the office, as well as printing capabilities to your home printer.

A more fully featured remote control method is Terminal Services. A terminal server, whether it be Windows Terminal Services or Citrix Access Services, supports multiple remote computers connecting to the office sumultaneously. Use of Terminal Services provides users with remote access to applications, data, and local printing capabilities similar to the typical remote control scenario above. However, additional benefits include centralized security management, simplified application deployment, and a more efficient use of resources. This method does not require an idle PC at the office like the typical remote control setup above.

Sometimes, all you really need is access to specific applications or data. Being able to access email or the occasional document when out of the office is the number one demand these days. Microsoft, Novell, and other software vendors can provide web based applications that make accessing your user files and data at the office very easy and secure.

All of the above can be securely deployed with the use of a VPN, or Virtual Private Network. This technology allows direct access to a corporate network without compromising security. We typically recommend hardware based solutions such as Cisco PIX Firewalls.
